Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed which was based in Washington DC. The following year, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She served on a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms and the Iran Contra scandal. She travelled extensively with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
